Moody’s warns for slow recovery of Casino’s in Vegas

The Sky was the Limit 10-20 years ago in Las Vegas. Everything was possible and there were almost no ceilings to the amount of money that was spend on New casinos and resorts.  Now a days the biggest gamblers arent found anymore in las Vegas. They are in some other place doing the gambling. Even the biggest casinos have alot of debts these days in Las Vegas.

MGM and Caesars have great debts on the financial year reports. The 90% consists of debts. Luckely for these companies these are long term debts and  so the have time to recover. Hopefully the economy of the USA revovers before these great casinos are wiped from history.

With the worldwide crisis and the slow recovery of the US and Europe the question is if these landmarks will survive this crisis. We think that this year will be crucial for the world and its economy.

Amaya Gaming Group Shows Revenue Decrease

Amaya Gaming Group, which is based in Montreal, released its financial results for the first quarter of 2011.

The group’s results weren’t as good as was hoped, reflecting a 23% year on year decrease in revenues for the time period.  In the first three months of this year, revenues were thus reported to be $1.14 million.

“Amaya posted revenues of $1.14 million for the first quarter of 2011, a 23% decrease compared to $1.48 million the first quarter of 2010,” said the group. “The decrease reflects the Corporation’s efforts to gain traction of its solutions aimed at the hospitality and government sectors.”

Amaya Gaming Group made headlines recently, after it announced its intention to purchase the struggling Chartwell Technology Incorporated, parent group to Chartwell Games.

Amaya will pay $22.7 million for Chartwell and said that it had raised just under half this amount in a bid to finance the acquisition.

Q1 Highlights

Despite a drop in revenue, Amaya posted several highlights that took place in the first quarter of the year.

In January, the group obtained a second public lottery permit from the Government of Kenya, and in the same month, it added Mexico, Central America, the Caribbean and various South American countries as new territories covered under existing licensing agreements.

In February, Amaya secured a license to operate online gambling in the Dominican Republic, and in March it was selected by the Betting Control and Licensing Board of Kenya to operate online gaming.

“The successful launch of our SMS Lottery in Republic of Kenya demonstrates our capacity to execute on our strategic corporate initiatives by effectively penetrating and developing new markets,” said the CEO of Amaya, David Baazov. “Amaya’s government solution offering was further strengthened by the grant of a Nations Wide Lottery Permit in Kenya and a license to operate online gaming in the Dominican Republic.”

“We believe the continued investment in expanding and implementing our solutions will enable the company to grow revenue and increase earnings in 2011,” he said.

Canadian Owned UK Lottery Operator Wants to Expand

Camelot, operator of the UK national lottery, has said that it wants to expand its products in the United Kingdom.

The group is owned by the Ontario Teachers’ Pension Plan and makes a sizeable contribution to members’ incomes.

Camelot said that it wants to install thousands of new lottery terminals in rural areas across the UK. The expansion will include around 8,000 lottery outlet terminals which will sell tickets and scratch cards.

Camelot currently has a license to operate the lottery until the end of 2019, and has asked regulators to grant it an early extension to the 10 year license in order to expand the lottery terminals.

“Because our profit margins are so low, we can only make such a large investment in our retail estate and still deliver a return on investment if the National Lottery Commission grants Camelot a five year extension to its existing license,” said the chief of Camelot, Dianne Thompson.

Camelot has a clause in its license agreement that allows it to request a five year extension in return for a “licensee investment” which essentially enhances contributions to good causes in the UK.

The Gambling Commission would not allow Camelot to use the terminals to pay for bills or provide mobile phone top ups after it made a request earlier this year.

Commission: Due Consideration

The UK Gambling Commission said that it would give the request due consideration.

“We will reach a decision following a thorough consideration of whether the proposal is in the best long term interests of the National Lottery and the thousands of good causes all around that country that benefit from National Lottery funding,” said the group’s Chief Executive, Mark Harris.

Camelot was purchased by the Ontario Teachers Pension Plan last year for £389 million, and the intended expansion is the first major investment by this group since the takeover.

$1 Million Lotto Max Ticket Will Expire Soon

Canadian lottery players who purchased a Lotto Max ticket in the Dartmouth area last year may want to go back and check their old tickets… because they may be sitting on a gold mine.

Atlantic Lottery officials reminded Canadians that a $1 million ticket lies unclaimed and the date of its expiry is fast approaching.  Lottery players have until August 6th to claim the money – and after that, it’s too late.

“The Lotto Max jackpot was $50 million and there was an additional 32 $1 million prizes that were drawn,” said Sarah McBeath, a spokeswoman for Atlantic Lottery.

“The prizes are called Maxmillions and so these Maxmillion prizes are individually drawn.  That means there were 32 draws with $1 million each.

The winning numbers on the unclaimed ticket are as follows: 6, 23, 36, 30, 34, 36 and 41.

Atlantic Lottery also said that another ticket has gone unclaimed from a November 22nd, 2010 draw, although the winner still has a bit of extra time to claim that win.

Customers Told to Check Old Tickets

A worker at a pharmacy in Dartmouth told CBC News that she has been urging all her customers to go home and check out their old tickets, in case they missed out on one.

“I said, ‘You know what?’ Go home, check your tickets, all of your old tickets. Bring them in, validate them, you could have a winning $1 million ticket.’”, said Christina Murphy.

Murphy said that she hoped that her store, Mackay’s Pharmasave, was the one where the $1 million ticket was sold, but she wasn’t convinced.

She did pray, however, that she was the lucky winner. “I’ve checked everything, everywhere,” she said. “In my house, tore it apart, upside down, just in case.”

“No luck. No luck at all,” she said.
